Description

Ile aux Aigrettes is a small 27-hectare island located in the bay of Mahebourg, about 850 meters off the south-eastern coast of Mauritius. Unlike the latter, of volcanic origin, Île aux Aigrettes is made up of coral limestone. It shelters the last vestiges of the dry coastal forest which once surrounded almost the whole of Mauritius.

Pick-up at 07.30 a.m at the hotel reception. The tour begins with a short boat ride from Old Sand Jetty to Pointe Jérome, approximately 500 meters south of the Preskil Hotel. Once on Île aux Aigrettes, you will take a walk lasting between an hour and a half and two hours and will be accompanied by one of our qualified forest rangers who will introduce you to the unique flora and fauna that you will observe. He will also explain to you the restoration work that we do on the island and share with you his knowledge of the region and the history of the island.

After the visit to the island, around 11.45, you will take the boat and visit the century old Manioc Biscuit factory in Mahebourg. You will have the opportunity to taste the different types of Cassava cookies. Then lunch will be served at 13.00 at the Nativ Lodge. After lunch, stroll on Mahebourg Waterfront and enjoy a quick visit of Mahebourg which is a typical creole city. Return to your hotel around 17.00.
